This is Renegade Nutrition
This is ME
After almost a decade of researching and practicing nutrition, I have learned that the road to health is most often not straight-forward, and there is no one single “right” way to heal. My passion is helping others find the right path for them, cutting through the noise that so oftentimes overwhelms and distracts us from listening to our bodies and trusting our own intuition.

Hey there, I’m Elanie! I have been a nutritionist and wellness coach since 2019. Throughout my life, a common underlying theme in my career aspirations has been a drive to help people and improve health. When I completed my first master’s in Occupational and Environmental Health in 2014, I thought I’d be starting a competitive internship at the CDC in their Emerging Infectious Disease department, or continuing on to get a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, but NOPE! God had other (much better) plans for me.
I’d seen nutrition change the lives of friends and loved ones. A close friend of mine was able to halt and even reverse a supposedly irreversible thyroid condition by simply making nutrition and lifestyle changes. Similarly, my mom shrank and eventually eradicated a tumor in her thyroid - again, with diet alone. After watching Dr. Terry Wahls’ story of how she overcame Multiple Sclerosis through nutrition, I was hooked. When my dream job at the CDC didn’t pan out, I took a year off after graduating to get my life together before continuing on for my Ph.D., and during that time, I finally had the space to listen to what my heart really wanted. I decided to go back to school and master science a second time (SCIENCE!), this time, in Nutrition.
Nutrition was a risky choice because here in Iowa, nutrition is basically still considered a form of witchcraft. I am a nutritionist, not a dietitian, and as such, Iowa state laws prohibit me from practicing under my own license. This is despite the fact that I have a masters degree in nutrition, graduated Summa Cum Laude from an excellent, clinically sound program, passed the rigorous nutrition board certification exam (which, BTW, is vetted and approved through the same credentialing organization as the dietetics boards), and am going to have 1000 clinical hours of nutrition counseling experience.
ANYWAY. Because I haven’t managed to wear down our state senator and representative yet with my persistent letters lobbying to change that law, I knew it was time to do something so that I could continue to help people and share the nutritional knowledge I have gained. And so, the Renegade Nutrition Podcast was born. There is a lot of misinformation out there surrounding nutrition, and however unpopular the truth may be, our goal is to spread it, one podcast at a time. It is my hope that the information we share will truly help you revolutionize your health. In America, we equate “health” with merely the absence of disease. Let’s change that, and make true health, the kind of health where you are not just surviving, but thriving, the status quo.
This is RENEGADE
I chose renegade nutrition because to be a renegade means to challenge the status quo. Renegades reject the standard American lifestyle and diet - which is shown to deteriorate health - and choose resources to make a lifestyle of health and thriving the mainstream.

To make health the new mainstream.

The status quo is sub-par health. As Americans, we have become conditioned to living an unhealthy lifestyle leading to sickness and disease. We are so conditioned, in fact, that when someone decides to make healthier nutritional choices, we automatically label it as “dieting.” We want to change that, providing hopeful alternative health options to help other daring renegades forgo the status quo. It is our goal to give support, information, and resources for others to live their best lives.
